This is a remarkable story of community engagement and transformation. The participants of the sixth edition of the School for Social Transformation have shown how collective effort and determination can bring neglected spaces back to life.

As a part of the program, the participants initiated the restoration of the community pool, which had become a dumping ground and was overgrown with tall grass and creeping plants. This reflects their commitment to improving community spaces for the benefit of all. By mobilizing efforts to clear, clean, and restore the community pool, they have not only rejuvenated a physical space but also sparked a sense of pride and ownership within the local community.

The involvement of the locally elected ward member underscores the importance of collaboration between community leaders and grassroots changemakers. Their appreciation for the participants' efforts highlights the positive impact that youth-led initiatives.

This restored pool now stands as a symbol of what can be achieved when people come together with a shared vision. It will undoubtedly encourage others to reimagine and reclaim neglected spaces in their communities.

They are essential sources of freshwater, rich biodiversity, and cultural heritage. However, mountains face threats from climate change, deforestation, and unsustainable practices.

Why Protecting Mountains Matters:
Water Resources: Mountains provide 60-80% of the world's freshwater resources, crucial for human consumption, agriculture, and industry.

Biodiversity: Mountain regions are home to diverse flora and fauna, many of which are endemic and at risk due to environmental changes.

Climate Regulation: Mountains influence weather patterns and act as barriers against extreme weather events.

How You Can Make a Difference:
Support Conservation Efforts: Engage with organizations dedicated to preserving mountain ecosystems through donations or volunteer work.

We have successfully completed the first phase of the Winter School for Social Transformation! Over 40 youth from Kerala were selected from a pool of applicants to participate in this initiative.

This year's Winter School focuses on Environment and Climate Change, addressing critical issues such as Kerala's floods and landslides. The program aims to equip young people with the knowledge and skills needed to engage in climate change adaptation and mitigation efforts.

Participants who have completed the first phase are now expected to initiate community action projects in their local areas. Based on the scope and impact of these initiatives, selected participants will be invited to the offline phase of the Winter School, scheduled from 18th to 23rd December.

We look forward to seeing the incredible contributions these young changemakers will bring to their communities!
